Welcome to the FVES blog about the Alabama Big Read book Tom Sawyer. This blog was created for the students to share their thoughts about the Classic Starts version of Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
I am very excited to have so many fifth graders interested in reading this story along with me! I will be very interested to see what they have to say about this classic story!
Groups will meet in the library several times a week during Reading classes. During the groups Mrs. Shepherd will read aloud, guide activities and small group discussions related to the author and book. Complete the sign-up sheet and return it to Mrs. Shepherd.

ReplyDeleteThis current version of " Tom Sawyer," is a vey intresting book so far. Since we started the book, I have been really interested in the book.
ReplyDeleteOn Monday April 5th we talked about the difference between 1st person and 3rd person narrative. 1st person writing uses the word"I", while 3rd person writing is like a narrator speaking.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite genre is Adventure/Fantasy. Books like the Eragon/Eldest/Brisinger trilogy by Christopher Paolini, and the Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan. So my protagonist are adventuresome guys that are able to use their wits to overcome adverse situations.

ReplyDeleteI completed the book last week! It was very good. I am really enjoying our literary discussions each week. Some of my favorite protagonists are Easy Rawlins, Alex Cross, and Mma Ramotswe.

ReplyDeleteBrooklyn and I enjoyed making the Setting Shadow boxes with our favorite settings.I saw the play and read the book and it was awesome I can't what to see what the book is next year.

ReplyDeleteI finished the book about 2 weeks ago, and it was awesome! Huck would have to be my favorite character! I really enjoyed reading it.. I might read it again just for fun! I cannot wait for the feild trip!:D

ReplyDeleteWord spreads fast. Yes Bama Belle canceled since the boat is still being repaired. No worries Mrs. Martin (the librarian from Myrtlewood Elem.)and I are working on another plan. We don't have it all approved yet. When we have the go ahead I'll share our plan with you.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite character is Tom. I like the way that he is always thinking, creating and devising some sort of plan.
ReplyDeleteI also like Aunt Polly because she can laugh at herself and not take things too seriously.
I am going to the play Sat. night. I am looking forward to it. The kids came back from the play so excited this week. I like to compare things, there may be a Venn diagram in our future!
ReplyDeleteDid I tell you that I am reading the original version with my son? He is in the eighth grade and has to take the AR test Monday. I especially like reading the diagolue with him. I am ususally Tom and he is the Huck or even Becky Thatcher.:)

ReplyDeleteI'm upset about not going to the Bama Belle, but I think watching the movie will still be fun! We're going to have a good time... Trust me! I miss reading the book, but now I'm reading the original version of The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn and so far it's really, really good! :D

ReplyDeleteToday was our last group meeting of Tom Sawyer. Ohh so sad. I will miss our groups. The kids have inspired me to share what we did at the AIMA (Alabama Instructional Media Association) Conference with other librarians. Tomorrow is our Field Trip!

OMG! i love the feild trip! the movie was super good, i rated it my fave. and winzell's was good,and we did a hunt for stuff in a basket,sorta like a test!!!! but it was one of the best feild trips ever.im sad that today was the last day.but this summer i may get some of my close friends.and our goal is to read a book,just like tom sawyer.maybe huck's book!
